Rally Cat: The Hero That We Need
On August 9, a new hero scampered on to the field of our shared social awareness and immediately trended back into the oblivion from whence she came. Her true identity forever concealed, you will know her only as Rally Cat, the cat who saved the St. Louis Cardinals from an otherwise mediocre sixth inning and led restless Cardinals fans to the precipice of grand slam glory. Witness her here, in all her glory.
Like the legendary Cincinnatus himself, Rally Cat proved her greatness and was gone, notwithstanding the relentless glare of the press and a potential kitty jailbreak. Rally Cat served no individual ambition, only the present need of Cardinals fans worldwide. Assuming there ARE Cardinals fans worldwide.
Rally Cat did not let her individual shortcomings--not her lesser size, speed, or age compared to her human pursuer, nor any of the other innate peculiarities of her species--deter her from her goal of crossing that field and saving the game in the process. She was an unwilling star, fighting like hell to slink quietly from the spotlight and even baring her claws and her tiny dagger-like teeth to stand up for her beliefs. Despite her captor's superior strength and evenly-matched intelligence, she never gave up hope of getting back to the business at hand.
Rally Cat made her impact on the country, and that impact was real, clear, and obvious. She did not overstay her welcome, and she did not overplay her paw. Plus, she did it all with nary a tuft of fur out of place. So let us raise a cup of catnip tea and toast Rally Cat for the gift she gave us and the model she set. To Rally Cat, the First of Her Name!
